Tell us more about that work and its importance in our community.

My brother, who has down syndrome, has been a part of Reality for many years. Reality seeks to bridge the divide between people with and without development disabilities through friendship and a variety of activities including outings, music, community service, shared meals, and a myriad of other events. I have never seen such a more loving group of people. It's been amazing to see my brother flourish as a human being in a world that seems to shun those who are just a bit different. Reality Ministries is a safe haven that celebrates all regardless of ability, race, ethnicity, faith, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, theological perspective, socioeconomic status, citizenship, and language. My brother (who has a deep love of musical theatre) and myself have been able to perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center together during their annual talent show—an event that showcases all of the amazing talents that thrive within Reality Ministries.
